The kitten ended up going to the Orphan Kitten Project - a group of vet med students who take in orphaned or abandoned kittens in order to get practice caring for little kitties. They're overwhelmed with kittens right now and aren't technically accepting anymore, but there was another singleton the same age, and they do better raised as part of a ( Read more... )

oh good a happy ending! telemicus August 15 2005, 07:06:12 UTC
I loved your story, I know with the flat and the pee it wasn't technically a fairy tale but I just loved the idyllic picture of bike ride, cute little blond kid, sunshine, fields, farms and then a kitten! so far from here!
and now George the kitty has a sister :)

Yeah, the kitten definitely kept the whole thing from being miserable. I'm a little glad it happened, since I might not have heard the kitten if I'd zoomed past the bush.

I wish that instead of euthanizing cats, shelters, pounds, and humane societies would spay/neuter them and return them to the streets. That way, they get to live, might end up being adopted, and don't procreate.

I kind of wish everyone would spay/neuter cats, though.

Yeah, me too.

This kitten would be too young for that, though. It probably required at least a few weeks to a month or special care before it is ready to be spayed and released. And I don't know if it would have a chance of surviving on its own at a young age after being raised by humans for that long.

Yeah, it's normal for that age. When I was a teenager, my neighbors had the sweetest three year old, but he tormented their kitten terribly, and it ended up running away.

Ohh.. I wish I'd known you had a kitten.. I've been having problems with my friend's list.. I have been missing a lot of posts.. don't know if it is LJ or if I'm going crazy..
Our kitty just died. We want to wait a little(long)while to adopt again, but we've decided if Sammy and Sherman(recently deceased kitties) send any cats our way we'll take them in.
I've never seen a baby with a cat.. we imagine Brenna Rose is tugging Sammy's tail like a good girl wherever they are.
I'm glad you found it a good home.

Yeah, when you posted about Sherman dying, I kind of wished we'd held onto the kitten in case you'd wanted it, but it was too late already.

Our experience with babies and cats wasn't great. They did ok for a while, but then got fed up with the ear and tail pulling and started taking swats at him. And now he's just way too hyper around animals, though maybe if he'd been living with them for the past year, he'd do better.

Oh, if you do want a new kitty, it will probably be available for adoption very soon, and I know they're overwhelmed with kittens and would probably be happy to get it off their hands. I think they're cheaper than the SPCA, too. http://www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/clubs/fmc/okp.html
