This was my first foray into Idol. I've been following it for years and I've missed the sign ups by days more than once (last cycle I missed it by HOURS lol), so finally getting to participate was something I'd been looking forward to for a long time. I don't think there's any way to prepare for Idol. The challenges of weekly prompts and deadlines and life being unpredictable (not to mention the spaces of time where you CAN write, but your inspiration is no where to be found) are more difficult than I expected, but I've had SO much fun. Years ago I was heavily involved in fandom and I wrote ALL the time, but it's been very long since then and I dare say pre-Idol the last time I put a completed piece of writing online was... 2013
