I can tell you this -- being upset about others voting for just one person is something that never would have occurred to me as something to be upset about.
I mean, it's an online writing game/competition, so nothing about it seems all that worth getting worked up over to me, but that's a new one. Especially at this stage of the competition, and certainly as weeks go by beyond this. I would actually be *more* inclined to vote just for the "very best", that one person whose entry that week was The One.
But that's just me. (Now, let me clarify -- if you're only ever voting for *yourself* and never, ever for anyone else, that seems a little outside the spirit of the game. But otherwise? Eh, seems fine to me.)
I try not to make judgments on these issues of "what I would complaint about"/"what's not worth complaining about". People are going to differ on that sort of thing.
I just report what some folks see as issues - and what I can/can not do to address them!
I'm not the person that complained (I don't think I've complained to Gary, period)-but.
This has been going on the entire competition, and it is never "just a few" votes. In at least one case I can think of, it was enough to keep that person from going home that week

Oddly enough, they were inspired by two completely different things. Yesterday was sparked by a series of posts on facebook by a completely non-Idol related person that I know.
But yeah, they did end up dovetailing nicely into each other.
Some rules I've noticed this season:lrig_rorrimJanuary 13 2015, 17:11:52 UTC
- It's not ok to use something for the poll/prompt that was written before the prompt was given out. Or at the very least, it's not ok to admit to it. There seems to be a general consensus / feeling that this is unfair, and comes preloaded with the expectation that you'll be judged by the same standards as everyone else, when you had more time to do the work and polish the piece. - I'm pretty sure many of us feel it's not ok to just self promote. There's a different between telling people "there's this thing! That I'm taking part of! Go check it out!" and "go vote for me!" It's a subtle difference, but one is more likely to get other people reading and invested and interested, and the other just motivates folks to click on the clicky box by your name, shrug, and move on with their days

Yeah... we really do have a kind of culture of silence going on this time around, which bugs me a little, I admit.
On the other hand, "calling people out" is not something I'm comfortable with either. That feels... weird to me, personally. Especially when it comes to unstated rules (which I've been all contradictory about and gone and stated. Heh). The whole "name and shame" thing (not at all referring to the List of Shame here) as a concept bugs me, because I'm not real big on shaming people. I figure most people are pretty good at handling their own guilt and being mean to themselves, and they don't need my help to feel bad? I dunno.

I'm with you. It's not really about shaming, from my perspective. I'm just really, really bothered by people who have one public persona and act like a completely different person behind the scenes. I have seen Idol winners do this, and walk away with this completely undeserved and inaccurate positive reputation.
I try really hard to be myself - even when I know it doesn't make me popular (like today!). I'm just tired of all the facades.
No one's complaining about you handing out multiple "extra credit" immunity opportunities when most of us are too busy and exhausted to even consider doing more than getting our entry in on time?
Because that's the new, "this season" thing that's really chapping my hide.
Quick Fires were actually on the table to be added really early in the season, but I backed off from them because so many people were complaining about "How many entries there were to read" that I didn't want to add to that count and risk things being ignored.
Now that we are at a comfortable level, I figured it was a good time to add them.
The Killing Floor immunity was added because people weren't doing Home Game entries/commenting on them unless I gave them an incentive. So I did.
That said, the "solution" to this is coming next week. :)
A situation where 3 out of 17 will be saved regardless of their vote standings - knowing that 2 of those immunity votes will be controlled by a small and possibly very strategic minority - doesn't strike me as comfortable at all.
I suppose I would see it differently if it WERE a required activity, and that was just the gauntlet we all had to run and then reap a possible benefit from. But as it stands, it feels like just one more perk to the people who have more time on their hands than I do.

(if you were complaining about it)
At Top 17, this is probably the least amount of writing in the longest period of time to do it that people have had. I really have been getting soft!
