kfp_rawr will continue playing the home game. Fortunately, I haven't emphasized the competition aspect to him, so he's not going to be upset about being cut. He was very happy to hear about the positive results his entries got and delighted to know that he'd made some people laugh.
I want to give a shout out to qween394 and her amazing parents, cheshire23 and ravenshrinkery, who are encouraging her creativity. Keep writing!
Ooh, that sounds great! What's the book? I've found, in my limited experience, that they have a natural faculty for rhyme and rhythm and love to play with words. Encouraging children to write poetry is such a worthwhile endeavour.
Read a whole section of it to him at bedtime, and he was captivated, even without any pictures! I'm not surprised, though. One of his favorite books is a picturebook of Carl Sandburg poems.
Yeah, that was the one thing that made this OK for me. That at least two of the people involved wouldn't be upset. One because they chose to bow out and the other because he really didn't know e could be eliminated anyway! :)
You know, even if I had told him that, I don't know if it would have bothered him. He watches "American Idol" with me and sees singers eliminated all the time. :)
BTW, he picked Scotty McCreery to win a couple seasons ago. Every time he sang, KFP danced all over the room.

I'm really excited about reading to KFP from a book I got at the library today, of poems written by children. Wonder what he'll think of them?
