Coming into this week, we had the possibility of *57* bye-outs. 57 contestants hanging on that edge of dropping off into the abyss

I'm stunned at the number of bye-outs per week. Is this following trends from the first five LJ Idols?

Well the first few seasons didn't have "byes". Obviously you are looking at lower numbers in the ones that did, because there are more contestants this time around.

Also, some of them (like last season) only had *1* bye. Which plays out in a far different manner. You only have one "freebie" and you hold onto it like gold. You have *2* and suddenly it seems like you have them to spare. So you go "oh, I'm not feeling this topic. I'll take my pass. . ." and then something happens, and you have to take the other. . .

and suddenly there is no more net under you.

So, yes and no. No - because this specific situation has never played out before.

and Yes because this is always the roughest time period for bye outs and proportional wise to 2 bye seasons it seems about where I expected it to be at this point. Actually maybe a few *more* people still in the game if anything. :)
