LJ = Air Canada

When I first moved from the U.S. to Canada back in 1997, I became completely enamoured with Air Canada, Canada's major national airline. I travel a lot, see, and the little things made a huge difference to me. There was more leg room in the seats, even on domestic flights. The airline food was plentiful, served to us even on hour-long flights, ( Read more... )

Thank you. That's exactly how I feel.

That's a very sensible analogy.

::sigh::

Remember when people used to get dressed up to fly? Now you're lucky if they're not in pajamas...

Yeah, what you said. Personally, staying away from LJ for a day might cause me some sort of aneurysm, but maybe I'll try. Who knows. Sigh.

I probably won't post on Friday just because I'd hate to be a "scab." But I don't think it'll actually accomplish anything.

Yeah, I agree on both counts. I love the icon I saw that said 'BE HEARD' and then talked about not posting. Hear my silence. It roars! Ah, people.

Is something going on with LJ?

A whole lot of things, yeah, over the last few years. Some of them have been things that have marginalized certain groups on livejournal (including fandom, which is how I'm aware of it), and some of them have been changes, big and small, in business practice. It's also been sold a couple of times, and each time the new owners have taken it one more step away from what it was originally conceived as.

Here's a post with some links to stuff about the latest installment in the saga.

On the other hand, the head of Air Canada probably never did an interview saying that people who were unhappy with the new level of service were fools and liars who blackmailed the company with their complaints.

I've reached the same conclusion you have--not least because I have a permanent account, so I can safely say that SUP will never get another penny from me--but I'm not terribly thrilled with how things are going.

Actually, Air Canada has had a whole slew of CEOs since things started to go south, and they've each been progressively more awful. In fact, the more I think about it, the more the analogy really works. *g*

You're definitely right, though, about the shelling out of money. I'm very glad I bought my permanent account when I did. Who knows how long they'll last, though. I fully expect that two or three owners from now, we'll be losing them.

I've been expecting to lose mine since the 6A acquisition. Every day is a gift. *)
