Good Looking Privates (A Tropes Picspam)

Jun 24, 2010 20:20

For picspammy challenge twenty, tropes. Obviously, I chose Good Looking Privates. Because there are a lot of them. Y'know.

And I'm a history nerd.

And, uh, yeah, I'm repetitive I still use the same words a lot, like also, and awesome, and fly, and I apologize for that, and also my love for commas. I know I'm not doing my part for China.

"Quite simply put, attractive military personnel. There's something about a man - or a woman - in uniform. It may be custom, it may be regulation, but either way they make it look good."

Damon Salvatore, The Vampire Diaries

Oh, Ian. You're so pretty. Awkwardly, I kind of thought of him first. This is awkward because it was all of this one episode for all of like five minutes. But nonetheless! Sure, he was a deserter, but he signed up so obviously there was something there. I don't know, I just watch the show and I don't care to read the books (which is, I'll grant, is a rarity on my part [not wanting to read them, I mean]). I do want to know more about this, though. Also, I additionally intentionally included Stefan/Paul in these caps because they're both gorgeous (although, I don't really like his hair in the flashbacks...).

Tyler Lockwood and Jeremy Gilbert, The Vampire Diaries

So, from Damon, I was naturally led towards this. Technically neither was actually in the military or anything...but they're in uniform so it's okay to be on the list. I think.

Matthew Batra, CSI: Miami

Episode 5x10. Um. Yeah, I totally just thought of this after doing Trevino in TVD. That's all. Technically, I don't suppose he was actually in the military at all and, spoiler (but really you should have seen in coming), he's the bad guy in the episode. Um, also, I took the caps from YouTube, hence the bar in those two in the middle. So, you can watch it...but it was in Spanish.

Malcolm Reynolds, Zoe Washburne, and Tracey, Firefly

Aw, come on. That Mal quote is at the tippy top of the Trope page. Besides, Browncoats are awesome. Mal and Zoe are quite good looking and badass. And Tracey's kind of adorable, still. Also, you can't tell me that the theme of that particular episode (The Message) doesn't make your heart sputter for them just a little bit.

Michael Holden, Frank Sherwood, Jeremy Sherwood, Trevor LeBlanc, and Joan Burton, Army Wives

Seriously. The whole show qualifies. I mean, it is about the army and all. Admittedly the best fit in particular for the trope would be Drew Fuller as Trevor, but Jeremy and Joan are up there, and Michael and Frank just have the best personalities ever. Period. Besides, anyone in a dress uniform (ie, the last few caps) ♥. (Can I point out, by the way, that there was a lot of talking on the phone in this episode?)

Harmon Rabb, Jr and Sarah MacKenize, JAG

Well, obviously. DJE was totally the fictional man of my childhood, because I totally watched JAG all the time with my dad, even though I'm positive I had no idea what was going on. And Catherine Bell just can't get away from Army dramas, so. And anyway, pretty much this whole cast looks ridiculously awesome in uniform, which is good because if they didn't it would really suck, all things considered.

Owen Hunt, Grey's Anatomy

Hey! Random thought of the day. Yeah. I like Owen. Because him and Christina are totally the best characters on that show (and, yes, he chose her in the end, so there). Besides, red hair is awesome.

Seeley Booth, Jared Booth, and Teddy Parker, Bones

Like I would leave off everyone's favorite FBI agent. Admittedly, I could have found better caps, like, say, for example, The Pain in the Heart where he was in dress uniform, which, as we've established, is totally fly. Also, Jared is kind of a badass when in uniform. And Teddy was so overwhelmingly awesome that it's ridiculously depressing that he's dead. Sad face.

Nathan Scott, One Tree Hill

Okay, so it was all Lucas's dream, but Nathan got to be a soldier in it so it was okay. Although, I mean, yeah, it was depressing for him and Haley, but then that whole episode was pretty depressing when you think about it. Anyway, World War II coming at 'cha here. He plays it so prettily. Also, cinematography is some kinda gorgeousness.

Arthur Pendragon, Merlin

Okay, this totally counts, as, at the time, Arthur was just like the head of the flippin' military, only under Uther. And he's oh so princely and the like, especially when he's in chain mail and has the dragon seal and all the fly jazz. Bonus Gwen and Merlin, because Arthur/Gwen's never going to end (unless they realllllly stray from legend) and Colin Morgan is adorable (although kind of annoyingly dark when next to Bradley when you're trying to make the pictures look prettier, at least in that picture).

James T. Kirk, Spock, Leonard McCoy, Nyota Uhura, Hikaru Sulu, Pavel Chekov, and Montgomery Scott, Star Trek

Just oh nine because it's all I've really seen. I know. Also, sad faces for not being able to find a shot of Scotty in uniform except in the group shot. And sad faces for the notably missing Daddy Kirk, because he was hot. Anyway, they're all pretty much ridiculously attractive, so. And besides, their military is in SPACE. Whatcha got to say to that?

James Norrington, Pirates of the Caribbean

Oh, Norrington, I'm still bitter about how they ended you. I loved him so very much. I mean, obviously I didn't care too much in the first movie, because, in a manner of speaking, he was supposed to be one of the bad guys, but then the second movie was like BAM. NORRINGTON IS BADASS. And he was. And it was awesome. And then he was looking all fly and double crossing people and being generally awesome and then Beckett was kind of making his character suck and then they just killed him. WHAT WAS THAT?

Aragorn, Eomer, Eowyn, Faramir, Haldir, Pippin, and Merry, The Lord of the Rings

Okay, don't argue with me here, they're totally in the militaries of Middle Earth. For real. Legolas not included because he wasn't really in uniform ever. Like, Haldir added armor, so. Anyway, pretty much everyone in these movies are gorgeous (unless their character doesn't allow them to be), so, y'know.

Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie, and Caspian X, The Chronicles of Narnia

Um. Yes. They were all in Narnia's army. So. There. Although, admittedly, Peter's the military mind and Edmund's the fighter. And I mean, really, who doesn't love Will and Skan? No one, that's who.

Jack Aubrey, Barrett Bonden, Peter Calamy, and Will Blakeney, Master and Commander

Along with the required dose of Paul Bettany, because he's Paul Bettany. Man. I love this movie. And I don't know why. Also, as far as the trope's concerned, there's a lot of missing people. For me, most notably, Lee Ingleby (STAN SHUNPIKE) as Hollum, because I loved Hollum a lot and I was so very upset by him dying. Really. I had awful luck with this movie, because I started watching it and immediately latched on to Hollum as my favorite character and then he dies and so then I'm like hmmm, and I find Peter and he's awesome and then he dies! WHAT GIVES. Why do all my favorite navy men die?

George Wickham, Pride and Prejudice, Christopher Brandon, Sense and Sensibility, and Frederick Wentworth, Persuasion

Austen made me want to do this in the first place, because she uses a lot of military men in her stories. Wickham's kind of an ass, ha, but he is fairly attractive, I mean, Lizzie liked him. And Colonel Brandon is awesome (hey, it's Alan Rickman!). But my favorite is undoubtedly Wentworth. Rupert Penry-Jones is one of my favorites. Although, unfortunately, I've not see the version where Wentworth's actually in a uniform...so.

Max Carrigan, Across the Universe

It's totally hard to find caps of this. But, to round it all out, here's Max. Looking all trippingly awesome in all his trippingly awesome glory. Everybody loves Max, you can't not love him.

END.

- Yeah, okay, there's a loooottt missing. Like, say, Lt Dan/Mac Taylor (GARY SINISE ♥) and the boys from Pearl Harbor and the crazy amounts of miniserieses (which aren't here because I haven't seen them...) and etc, etc. But I was going for lesser thought of. And also I'm ridiculously lazy.
