Rick Mercer's well thought-out reaction (entitled "Same Sex Thursday!") to the Conservative Party's (also well thought-out, I'm sure) re-opening of the same-sex marriage debate.

I'm not going to complain about how they're not allowed to do this. I'm just not. Obviously the fact that they're not allowed to do this means sweet shinola to them.

Thank god for Rick. At least Dion has promised to whip his caucus to stop this from passing if he needs to.

I'm sure that will work, too, because most of the Liberal MPs who voted against the bill in the first place weren't re-elected anyway. It's nice to see that Dion has the strength of his convictions on this.

I'm mostly worried/pissed off about the fact that it even came to this. IT IS A LAW. It's a fucking Charter law. You can't change it.

They're not allowed to do this! They just aren't!

But then, you know--it's not like PM Harper's bff down south gives two figs about what he's allowed to do.

I know, it sucks ass no matter how you look at it. HUMAN RIGHTS, PEOPLE.

I do have a bit of faith in Canadian folk and our national sense of apathy. When it comes down to it, most people don't care who marries whom, or at least don't care enough to make a stand against it. Unfortunately Bush Jr. is one of the few who does, but he won't win. Laziness will prevail!

Dear Mr. Harper:

There's a war in Afghanistan, climate change is happening all over, we can't meet our part of the Kytoto agreement, the homelessness problem is just getting worse, and we have no money for oh, education and preserving Native languages and all that stuff.

Why not let all the consenting adults marry each other, and STOP WASTING OUR TIME AND MONEY?????
