Six impossible things before breakfast

I love Tim Burton, despite the fact that I all too often find watching his movies to be just like turning up at the most sumptuous banquet imaginable only to come away hungry. I read this is spite of the spoiler warning and you just confirmed everything that made me hesitant to see this movie! Now, I should admit straight up that I am no particular Alice fan. I mean, it's a good book but it was never a favorite, and I never even saw the Disney movie until a few months ago. But I get rather shirty anyway about adaptations that claim to be a certain thing (in this case, "Alice in Wonderland" - why not call it "Return to Wonderland" and get a pass from me?) and blatantly aren't. And when I saw the trailer for this and there was an epic plot, my interest plummeted. I preferred children's books with epic plots to Alice, but I don't think Alice should have a plot. As you say so well here.

But now that I know they do the whole "the only good nineteenth century woman is an anachronistic nineteenth century woman" thing, I'm even less inclined to rush out and see it!
