Spring Break TV: Tru Calling

Mar 23, 2010 02:53

Believe it or not, my spring break took place over a week ago. And as with every school break since the beginning of time (five. whole. years.) I had this picture in my mind of what it was going to be like: perpetual soft gray afternoon light, long drifty days spent polishing the silver, outings to the zoo, cooking by candlelight, and - above all ( Read more... )

dream, not even for ready money, tv, i have a crush on *every* boy

Huh, I had no idea he was in that show. Of course I had no idea who he was. I think I watched the first episode or two from faith in Faith, but then gave it up.

Yeah, he doesn't have the biggest of roles - nor does he look altogether like himself. The Tom Welling haircut and the unlined baby face are part of it. But he's so *extremely* slight on both Chuck and on White Collar, you get this idea of him as a guy who has always had a very small build. But he has an about average build on Tru Calling, which 1) sort of makes sense of reports that he once played football during his youth in Texas - you'd think Neal Caffrey would be in danger of being snapped in half on the football field, and 2) makes a big difference in his visible bone structure. Like the difference between Hornblower Jamie and BSG Jamie, only moreso. I don't know if I'd have remembered him from Tru Calling, even if I had watched it back in the day.

(Oh, plus, he's not even in the first three or four episodes, LOL, so if you quit early enough, you might never even have seen him!)

Heh - I didn't realize Hornblower Jamie and BSG Jamie were the same person. Shocked to find that out. Now I want to find pictures of old Matthew...

WAIT, you are using the sarcasms, no?! Or perhaps you mean that you did not know they were the same person *at some time in the past*? Like that time I didn't know BSG Jamie was the same person as the guy with the flaxen blond beard glued on in Daniel Deronda?

I so do not remember Matt Bomer from the few episodes I saw of that show. (Ah, Sci-Fi Channel. I used to watch you for no reason, back when I had cable, despite my better judgment.)

Also, I *heart* the Weepies. They mellow me out. When they are not, sadly, describing my life ("Not Your Year").

Strangely enough, I find the Weepies mellowing even when they *are* telling me sad truths about my life, LOL. Maybe it's the way they're not mournful, but rather gently matter-of-fact. Sort of makes me feel understood without triggering an episode of wallowing, haha.

And it's funny how cable will do that to you. I've been through such phases, where there will be some one particular channel that I just watch for no good reason. It's been Cartoon Network in the past. The Food Network. Even the Disney channel. I had an epiphany one night, my first semester here, when I realized I must be *really* lonely, because I was watching Disney channel shows I truly did not like, just for the pleasurable illusion of having encountered a familiar face that day. I realized I needed, at the very least, to become addicted to a better channel...

I think it depends on *my* mood, when I listen to the Weepies. If I'm already in a bad mood about something in their songs, then I know to stay away until I'm cheerful.

I had that experience once with iCarly! No idea why I was watching it.

The Food Network, now...that used to be my total comfort TV. Curling up on rainy days, or after teaching, and watching people cook stuff was a major part of my life. I like cooking shows anyway, because I might glean something from the less complicated ones, and PBS does a block of cooking shows on Saturday mornings (when they're not on pledge drive, anyway). So I still get a little of my cooking show fix, but it's not the same...

I was totally addicted to Alton Brown (and Ace of Cakes, too) all through the Fall. I wanted to watch Good Eats every single day, and I ended up staying up too late, night after night, because it would come on at, like, one in the morning, and suddenly it would seem terribly important to know everything there is to know about the carrot ( ... )
