It's interesting to see that mutants are starting to pop up in this world again. It does make me wonder if it will ever happen again back home, but that's not really the issue right now, is it? It's unfortunate that the mutant child had to go through something like that, but I do wonder how many more mutants will show their faces in the next while ( Read more... )

I wouldn't call you crazy. If mutants are treated as you describe in your world... [a sigh] I can't even imagine it.

But protecting people is never a bad thing.

[ Oh man, this world. So depressing. ]

I don't think I've even heard of a world where mutants have been treated fairly.

Well... mine is one?

[He's uncertain how to feel about her revelation.]

I don't know why people would think badly of them. They're just people like everyone else!

[Well, not quite, but in Steve's mind, they are.]

Because as I said up there, humans often hate and fear what they don't understand.

You're not crazy, Lorna. You're one of the bravest people I know.

[Jan is drinking ALL the Pepto.]

Did you have any sort of plan in mind or are you just going to swoop into teenagers windows and help them like some sort of Mutant Fairy?

As fun as that sounds, Jan, I was thinking of something a little less invasive. Considering there's a sort of facility where that one boy is being housed, there has to be files, or something that lists reported mutations.

Hey, important topics deserve speeches. But while that news bite did give me all kinds of winces for presentation style, I’m gonna be a Devil’s Advocate Dan and ask if we’re sure this is the X gene we’re looking at. As one of the poster children for the mutated amongst us, while a reemergence of the X-people is super duper in my book, or a population of any variant thereof, I, personally, have been long awaiting the arrival of the S gene, making sure this isn’t one of those nasty DNA murdering super viruses that crop up from time to time would be peaches.

So, uh. I guess the sum of my long spiel is who here can get me some genetic material to test?

If you get some genetic material, you better share it. No holding back, Parker.

I’ll trade you Saturday night dish duty for all the genomes you can eat.

[Silly Wasp. You’re so going to be helping him run these tests to start. You just didn’t know it yet.]

You're right. I did jump to the conclusion that it was the X-gene making mutants, but there's only one way to find out.

I'd say we should get some genetic material from that boy on the news. If we could somehow prove to his mother we just want to help him, maybe she'd allow for it. Right now, that's the only solution I can think of since he's the only lead we have for now.

Let's not jump the gun just yet. I do agree with everything you said but we've got to be careful about throwing that around to the public any more than it already has been. You know exactly what happens when wide-spread hysteria begins.

Yeah...Yeah, I know.

But Spider-man and I have actually been talking, and we were thinking we should try and find out who exactly helped the original X-men here.

I can try and get it out of Banks--or even Mila and Annie. I've got connections with them all, and they're most likely our best bets.

I'm just as freaked about this as you, but we've got to tread very carefully here.

I know. I just saw that news program and got upset---it's no excuse, but fuck.

The Mayor might be our best bet, though, considering he's all in love with you.

They could have been here all this time, but no one's spoken up about it. That's my theory.

Yes, the imports are to blame for everything. We probably get blamed for rainy days.
