Stuff like Pushing Daisies?

Jan 25, 2009 15:39

I'm looking for movies, books, music artists, websites, etc. that have the fantastical, creative, quirky Pushing Daisies vibe. Besides Wonderfalls and Amelie, are there any others? Any suggestions would be so helpful! Thanks!

It is darker, but when I think of Amelie I think of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Also quirky, but has a much darker vibe.

I liked "The Waitress". Not as whimsy as Pushing Daisies, but it does include pies! It's a nice comedy/drama/romance flick. You might want to also check out "Ms. Pettigrew Lives for a Day" and "The Fall", Lee Pace stars in both of them. All three movies mentioned are really great!

Ooooh, I haven't seen "The Waitress" yet, but I really should. Nathan Fillion is awesome!!

And I second watching the last two movies. Lee is amazing in them. ;)

It's actually just "Waitress" not "The Waitress".

Waitress is one of my favs! And it's like Pushing Daisies in more than just pies... It has those cute pie recipe sequences and the characters could easily be new PD cast members.

Big Fish, although that is a bit darker as well.

Check out Everything is Illuminated.. and I second both Big Fish and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Oh and did you ever watch Dead Like Me? You mentioned Wonderfalls (which I just watched for the first time!!) and both are Bryan Fuller shows.

Everything is Illuminated, yes! I love that movie! And while we're on the subject, Wristcutters: A Love Story reminds me of a darker and more surreal Everything is Illuminated. <3

Hilariously enough, in Wristcutters one of the lead characters "Eugene" is partly based on Eugene Hutz, the lead singer of Gogol Bordello who plays "Alex" in Everything is Illuminated. And a Gogol Bordello song features in the plot of Wristcutters. Seriously, it's like these movies are parallel universes, it's great! <3

Personnaly it recalls me the Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd as well as Big Fish, and also the Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Delicatessen.
That's all I can think about right now.
