I would like to apply (alas, not as PD character, very sorry) but as Nellie Lovett. I'm having trouble with my application journal/RP sample, as I don't know much of Oz/Wicked (terrible as a theatre kid, I know) and I have never done an RP on lj before. I'm not sure exactly what I should write in my application for my examples.
For your example, you don't have to write anything specific to the plot of this RP. If you're thrown by the "motivation/goals" thing... Basically we don't want a bunch of applications where the sample consists of nothing but the character you're applying for arriving in the city and asking random old ladies where they are, etc. Those kinds of examples are shallow and do not necessarily demonstrate an appropriate grasp of the character.
Which is what we're looking for, in addition to quality writing. That said, you may write any kind of setting/situation you desire. "RP Sample" should be third person past tense, with a minimum of 4-5 well-fleshed out paragraphs; "Journal Sample" should be first person, like Nellie Lovett was writing it herself, and does not necessarily have to be long at all. Whatever you feel is appropriate, as long as it's "in character."
I hope this answers your question? If not, feel free to ask for further clarification.
Ooh, if I may unceremoniously butt in, I had a similar question.
I'm in the process of filling out the application now, and was wondering about the "Character Abilities" part - I was intending on simply describing the character... or am I missing something glaring?
From what you said about the journal/RP sample, I presume it would be appropriate to 'drop' the character in a random storyline e.g. for now, and for these purposes, Charlotte has lived in Oz for x number of years, and she is well-acquainted with Ned/Emerson/Olive, as the case may be.
Is that along the right lines? Apologies for being a huge pest!
Hey there! I'm back from Alaska and totally available to RP. So...let's see who you have left...I wouldn't mind being Olive if no one's taken her yet. If they have, let me know and I'll try to see if I can be someone else. :)

If you'll just go ahead and submit a formal application then, so we can evaluate you and see if you'll be suited for our game...
We'll start accepting or rejecting applications by the end of the first week of August; the game officially starts in the second week.
