Falconry is what brought me here ^-^ Ive always wanted to be a falconer, ever since I was 14, but back then I was too young and also didnt have the resources. Now that Im getting to be out on my own, soon to be in a place where there is a lot of land, I hope to make my dream of back then a reality ( Read more... )

Hi! I'm extremely interested in falconry and have been so for a number of years now. I've read extensively on it and such. It's great to me another enthusiast. I have a whole lot of resources if you'd be interested in getting pointed in the right direction as far as becoming an apprentice goes ( most of this applies to USA falconers though ).

Nice to meet you and again, hi! :D

VERY interested ^-^ Dont worry, I live in the US, currently in KY but Im moving back to VA in Oct. The area where I had lived (and what Im moving back to) is mostly wooded with a few fields and farms. I got a packet from the Fish and Wildlife people back then, and I know Ill need to build an ayrie (cant remember) that has certain specifications, plus become apprenticed to someone, but thats all I can remember, so long ago @.@ But yesyesyesyesyesyes a million times over, I would LOVE to talk to you about it and get pointed in the right direction ^-^

lol! Yes, I go to Otakon! I've gone to Katsu every year too ( I forget which years, perhaps even the ones you mentioned ). Otakon was pretty okay this year; I always like Katsu better, and it's finally back in one hotel, which we all know is  because last year's was a complete disaster for me. :D

Sure I don't mind if you add me to friends; I'll add you back, but please don't take offense...I use my journal as mostly personal/private right now, and I don't want you to be offended because of that ^^;;. ( There's some kind of hardcore stuff in there, some of it not-so-happy, and I don't want people to have to read it, so. Yeah. )

Yayness. :D

I love falconry! I'm actually working on getting my licence now, but I'm also really broke and i cant buy books, etc at hte moment. Hopefully around this time next year I'll have my licence/bird/etc.

I'm really glad there are other people out there who like falconry. Most people here don't even know what a falconer is. Which makes me die a little bit on the inside. :(

I know, falconry is generally unheard of, unless you go to those medieval fairs and such. People tend to recognize it from that aspect.

Lucky! I wish you the best of luck in going forward with all of it. Have you got a Master yet? And any ideas where you might trap your Red-Tail?

I also tend to think a little bit...too far in the future...generally, what the bird I really want to fly would be. Do you have one in mind? I love the white gyrs, and of course the peregrines. Merlins too. Hell, I like them all, but you know what I mean.

Fellow falconry enthusiasts =.

No master yet, first you need a licence, then you need to aprentice for a few years then you get to be a general/jurnyman falconer, and then you finally can get to be a master falconer. So I'm quite aways away.

As far as a specific raptor, no i don't really have anything in mind. I absolutely love any and all birds so even if I could train a little sparrow or something to come to me I would be happy. I think having a crowned harpy eagle would be AMAZING, but they are extremely endangered, unfortunately. x-x They are also HUGE, they can pick up small deer/fawn sized creatures, AND their talons are about 3 inches long. x_x I'd need a full armed gauntlet. Hah.

lol know I know that; I meant, have you found a Master to apprentice under? xP

I know, me too. I've been in love with birds foreeever, especially raptors. I looked into a career in ornithology, but it wasn't my cup of tea. I wanted to be up-close-and-personal with the birds, raptors specifically, and that career choice just didn't include that as far as I could tell.

I love looking at gyrs. *_* The white ones are so captivating. Gorgeous! Look at him, isn't he amazing? *dies*

... *awk* *feels really stupid not remembering off the bat you owned the comm* *GUILT*

I initially joined for falconry, too. Imagine that!
