I'm just so pissed at PA's responses to the whole thing. They had every opportunity to not be dicks and yet...?
If I didn't already have passes and a hotel room reserved, I would reconsider attending PAXeast. It as bad enough that I had to harass four different people - none of whom are actually listed on the website, because there is NO contact info on the PAXeast site except for media - to get a medical pass. They claim to want to promote a safe space and inclusiveness, and yet they are going out of their way to make it less welcoming for large groups of people.
The whole thing has me fuming. I'm really impressed with your well-articulated responses; I wish I could write so clearly about it!
It's sad to see talented and influential people exploit their status to be assholes to people. What the hell guys. I hope that this doesn't sour you on gaming fandom as a whole. :(
Well, like I said, after he released his passive-agressive apology, when asked if it was still okay to wear the t-shirts, Gabe said he'd be wearing his to PAX? All the twitter horribleness from the 4th paragraph on have happened since the shirt was pulled from the store.
Ugh, yes. Debacle.tumblr.com has a really good outline of everything as well.
as of right now I wouldn't blame a single soul for not wanting to go to PAX east and be a voice against their 'inclusiveness'. Someone on Twitter (it might have been Courtney?) suggestion CONgregation as an alternate, inclusive gaming con.
