I didn't expect you to be there when I woke up. I figured the whole thing had been a dream because I didn't think I would do that. I didn't think you would do that, but you did and I'd never felt so ridiculous in my life.
I still have a scab on my knee from when I fell, so it wasn't a dream. It's late in the morning, almost time for school. You're standing here on my doorstep, holding out your hand and saying-
Walk with me.
Of course I won't. Not after that. But that's not what I say. I walk past you, I don't say a word, and you walk next to me anyway. Your hand keeps bumping into mine.
I liked it. And I hated that I liked it. I hated that I could feel my face getting hot and I still don't know what I slipped on or why I needed help getting up. I hated that you touched the back of my neck and pulled on my hair. I hated it so much that I want you to do it again.
But not now. We're at school and there are students outside. You're still walking right next to me, not in front or behind. You ask something that I almost don't catch.
I'll come to your house after school?
I don't say anything. For the second time. But my hand accidentally bumps into yours again before I leave. I would have said yes, but I didn't really feel like it. You'll probably come anyway. You know what I meant to say.
