Shishido is meeting a girl after practice, and she stands at the side of the court, fingers curled around chain links.
Minako sits next to him in History class and she doesn't smile much, but she does when he asks her to wait for him. It's a bright, beaming kind of smile. He likes her, he says, to anyone who's standing close enough to hear.
The ball sails fast and straight and plunges directly into the net twice. Shishido presses the back of his hand against his forehead. Still dry.
When Atobe smiles, it isn't beaming and bright, but biting and real. His words are even. He says "do it again".
The next time Shishido pulls the back of his hand from his forehead, it's dripping.
He likes Minako, he says, to anyone who is close enough to hear. Enough to notice when her form is gone from the other side of the fence.
