I'd been feeling a little detached from SPN lately, but this episode has actually made me pretty excited for the finale. I'm not going to get my hopes up too high, but I don't have any particularly strong predictions about how it might play out, and I'm intrigued to see where they go from here.

For a lot of Castiel's time on the show he's either been doing what he thought heaven wanted him to do, or what he thought Sam and Dean wanted him to do. This season... I actually find it pretty cool that Sam and Dean were the ones who sold him on free will, but because he's taken their input to heart, he's making his own decisions to go against what Sam and Dean would want (while still caring for and protecting them! TY, TPTB, for not making him just face heel turn). He's way more interesting to me when he has conviction rather than doubt (of course, as the narration demonstrated, he always has at least a little of both, but that scene where Dean gave him a last chance and he didn't take it - that was some pretty strong conviction right there ( ... )

The funny thing about all the hate and rage directed towards this episode is that I HAVE FELT THIS ABOUT THE ENTIRE SEASON SO FAR so I feel kind of vindicated. A little.

THEO YOUR EPISODE ANALYSIS IS LIKE 12,000 TIMES BETTER THAN THE ACTUAL EPISODE. FYI.

THERE WAS ANALYSIS? I FELT FOR SURE THERE WAS JUST RANTING. (...I might have actually done some ranting out loud about SPN's morality after I posted this.)

The funny thing is that I've been feeling meh about SPN for a long while, and the episode that makes me vaguely care again is a) a Castiel episode, b) widely hated and c) ENTIRELY EXPOSITION. What even.

(Also, it is maybe funny that I express my like for this episode in RANT FORMAT. Except maybe that's not surprising, because caring about SPN can be quite rage-y. I mean, I'm feeling a lot of pre-emptive rage for the fact that THEY ARE CLEARLY GOING TO RUIN EVERYTHING and now I CARE ABOUT EVERYTHING AGAIN and THEY ARE GOING TO RUIN IT AGAIN and OMG HAVING A RELATIONSHIP WITH THIS SHOW IS SO FRUSTRATING.)

You make a good point. There are obviously still reveals to come about what Castiel is up to, and it's quite possible that by the end of this season I will find Castiel's actions reprehensible ( ... )
