Aaaaaaargh, so frustrating and sad for Giles-- doing what she needs him to do, being her Watcher first foremost and always, and unable to touch her.

This is what Buffy needs right now, but maybe she would need more in the future.
And I don't know exactly what the Giles from season 3 would have been be able to give exactly : he's pretty messed up at the beginning of the season.
