Third Case [Voice]

[He begins by speaking in a quiet voice, almost to himself.]

Ah, this is much more painful than I anticipated.

[Shinichi is silent for a moment, then speaks up a a very calm and controlled voice.]

[For a moment Shinichi is speechless. Then his face colors faintly as he realize just what Ran had thought.]

W-well how else am I supposed to suck the poison out?! [That probably came out more like an indignant shriek than a question.]

We need to create a device that will do it. Breaking the skin with a knife and sucking out the poison by mouth has killed many people through infection and blood loss. Applying a tourniquet will damage the limb more than the venom will. Modern field snakebite kits come with suction cups or other extractor devices.

[Ran winced again as she pulled the strap of the first aid kit off of her shoulder, setting it onto the ground and opening it up.]

[Shinichi frowns.] In nineteenth century America it would most likely be carbolic acid or some form of alcohol.

...Have you gotten someone to look t your arm yet?

Ah! Found it! [Ran pulls out a bottle of rubbing alcohol, and then frowns at Shinichi.]

But this is really going to burn, isn't it..? [Yeah, Ran. Rub it in. Rub it in real good.]

Idiot. [She then flat-stares.] It just happened when I was on my way here. Of course no one's looked at it!

[She opens the bottle of alcohol clumsily, dropping it with her bad arm.] Ah!! [She scrambles to pick it up with the hand holding the cotton.] Thank goodness. Only spilled a bit...
