SIFF 2007!

May 16, 2007 01:52

I've finally narrowed down the movies I'd like to see. The starred ones are the ones I intend to buy tickets for in advance. Everything else I'll see how I feel about on the day of. I'll be up northwards on Sunday, so I'll see about picking up tickets then.

**edit** Hell, the 6 pack is only $3 off and the online service charge is $3.50... I ( Read more... )

Doah!!! I want to see Daywatch soooo bad, but it starts 15 minutes after I have to be at work. Hopefully they do a decent US release, or at least get the DVD out quickly.

Supposedly a limited June 1st release to be followed more widely if it takes off.

I'm hoping that means it'll be easier to get tix XD the anime features tend to sell out... plus, I'm also planning on seeing a midnight show of Pirates, again, while damienroc is in town XD

I kinda skipped over the shorts, as I knew those tend to play with specific movies. I forgot about the shorts collections though. I'll have to put it down as a maybe...

Funny, I'm more into seeing Hula Girls and Sway, than Mushishi and Sakuran. I mean, I love Narimiya Hiroki but I don't think that's a good enough excuse to go see Sakuran, for example. Odagiri Joe and Esumi Makiko are awesome though, so Mushishi might be pretty neat.

Well, you're much more familiar w/ live action Japanese actors than I am, so I'm sure that could be a big part of it. I've only seen Anna Tsuchiya in Kamikaze Girls and am more familiar w/ her for her music. Looking at Hula Girls' description now, I remember reading it, but I wasn't drawn to it strongly. Hmm, same with Sway. I was trying to plod through the A-Z list relatively quickly, so I didn't check full descriptions too often. Were you looking at all the films from Japan specifically?

Yeah, I basically just go to SIFF for the Japanese films, and I prefer comedies over all, and I don't know anything about anime :)

Man, that's funny, I had thought Tsuchiya Anna was in the second Nana movie, but apparently not (I've only seen the first one). She did some song for the anime I guess? Narimiya Hiroki was in both Nana movies (he played Nobu) but I'm mostly familiar with him from various doramas. Like "Stand Up", which I still insist you have to watch someday.

Yeah, Anna Tsuchiya was chosen to portay the music for Black Stones (therefore being Nana's singing voice) in the Nana anime and Olivia was chosen to portray Trapnest's music (therefore being Reira's singing voice). I think the anime is MUCH better than the movie, honestly.

And you mean this for "Stand Up"? From the description, the plot is a Japanese "American Pie"? Hmm, I'm somewhat familiar w/ Anne Suzuki. The best performances I've seen her in were The Returner and Hana and Alice. I also saw her in the live action Hong Kong version of Initial D (which was good, but she was dubbed in Cantonese the whole time, which I think was a total gyp to her, though I suppose they just cast her more for her idol actress status) and her short appearance in... that movie where Gackt and Hyde get totally gay for each other. Moon Child? God that was a terrible movie.

A Battle of Wits was good, but you don't have to wait in line for it, because it's already on DVD.

Ooo, thanks for the info. I already bought my tix though, and anyways, I do enjoy seeing a movie on the big screen. Beyond that, I love supporting SIFF. At least I know if I really like the movie, I won't have to wait for the DVD to come out ^_^
