One of the challenges I face when I write science fiction is how far ahead to put a story. Place the events too close and their history gets run over by reality in very short order. ...because gaudy death kitsch would be a great comfort to a family burying a child or parent.
Why just the funeral home? Why not the walls of a nursing home or hospital? You know, make them feel better about their impending deaths. -

I think the displays of grief over the damage to Big Tex are a bit much, but the memorial bouquet someone left at the site made of corn dogs?
