Whitman is amazing. I posted "Reconciliation" here before (though not on Veterans Day), and pieces of Proud Music of the Storm, which is what the quotes on my icon and my journal header are from. But "Dirge for Two Veterans" and "Reconciliation", as well as "Beat! Beat! Drums!", are used in the lyrics for Vaughan William's Dona Nobis Pacem, which my choir sang on Veterans Day last year, as well as Haydn's Paukenmesse.
I heard the song probably close to two years ago, but I didn't have a name. I only had a couple lines of lyrics. I just tried again to search for some of those lyrics, and it brought up a page where you'd posted "some of your favorite lyrics." I just wanted to thank you for finally letting me find this song! It was apparently the only place on the entire internet that those lyrics are in text.
