Just what I needed.

I just got home from listening to a preacher out at Turlington courtyard. Normally I am very put off by public preaching. But a friend of mine said this guy was a really amazing speaker and that I should try listening to him. I had time after Chem, heck I don't have anything until 5:30, so I decided to sit and listen to him. He was one amazing ( Read more... )

That guy can definately draw a crowed. He was there yesterday and last week too. No doubt, he'll be there tomrrow. He talked about religion in public schools today, and frankly, everything he said I could've have disagreed with more. This kid brought up some good points about minority religions and freedom of religion, and this guy just broke down; he did the worst job of arguing his way out. I'm sorry, but this kid owned him. It's fun listening to him though. He's really dedicated to his views though and he did say a couple of good things that I'm glad I really got to hear.

I dunno if we are talking about the same guy Dan. The one I am talking about wasn't here last week, and today was his last day. I think he has been here since Monday, just these 3 days.

But yea, a couple of times I was disappointed with how he responded to people's comments. I could totally see awesome ways to counter their points, but he didn't. And I think I know why now. He wasn't there to argue or debate, he was there to give his message. I'm sure that in other circumstances he would have been more than happy to debate points of history, religion, and philosophy... but a courtyard wasn't the place for it. At first it came off to me as bad preaching, but now I think it was just a way to avoid getting into a protracted debate about something that wasn't central to his message. Just my take on it.

I'm sure were talking about the same guy. But yah, I agree with you on most of everything you just said. A lot of the students were ready to argue and maybe that just wasn't his intention, I never really thought of that though.
