fic [telling you now so you don't have to think about it]

Feb 03, 2006 20:51

it's been one of those dreary drowsy days. 8 inches so far at the airport, more than any hurricane in three decades (roads closed, roofs collapsing and the backyard a lake again). wet and cold and the puppy hiding from the thunder between my back and the couch cushions. waking up to think I should take a picture to show the flist the fun of Florida in winter. falling back asleep before I move. waking up again with fic on my tongue, a bruise on my jaw and a message from the doctor letting me know I'll have to sell a kidney if I want to pay for an appointment without insurance.

then, the yummy yummy five kisses meme with it's brain eating awesomeness. the hot weatherguy geeking out on my tv and Glinda in my head, saying things like, "no, you doofus, like this" and "really, that's how you see me?" and "... RETARD."

and BSG tonight, with its gaygaygay promo and OMGOTP getting more screen time. and, dang fandom. there best be some femslash coming from this, you know? or I will cry.

eta: BSG LOVES ME SO MUCH, YO. PORN! ON MY SCREEN! WITH THE GAY! AND THE FIGHTING! AND THE PRETTY! awesome.

mostly, though, this. and maybe something else, afterward.

title: Tremble and Buckle
fandom: Degrassi
codes: Paige/Alex, post "Lexicon of Love 2" and beyond.
summary: Four kisses Paige and Alex share.
notes: for the five kisses meme, except I only wrote four. I am... incredibly OTPish about these two. like, scarily so. hence the fluff present here. title snurched from Alanis M's "Knees of My Bees"

There's a girl in her bed again.

Not that Paige is complaining about it this time. Alex is warm and solid against her side and Paige really wouldn't mind rolling closer and deeper into that heat.

It's a nice feeling, this being so close to someone without having to worry about anything. So nice she's considering forgetting about school and staying there, in bed with Alex, all day. And wow, that might just be the scariest idea ever.

Except she kinda likes the scary hot feeling that thought ignites in the pit of her stomach. Really likes the way it flares when Alex rolls over and smiles at her, still half asleep and totally unguarded.

And there are really no words for how much she likes the way her whole body kind of explodes when Alex pulls her close and kisses her, light and quiet and so soft Paige thinks she's dreaming it up.

Paige can't believe she's doing this. This is something Marco or Manny would do, not good girl Paige Michalchuk.

And yet, here she is, skipping fifth period Trig in order to hide out in the girl's showers. She feels like a freak, or worse, a pervert.

But, damnit, she hasn't seen Alex in days, what with finals and college prep and their work schedules refusing to line up. She's willing to do pretty much anything at this point, just to get a few minutes uninterrupted time with her girlfriend. Hence all the sneaking around in the locker room she's currently doing.

The field door opens and Alex comes bounding in, eyes roving the locker room for her target and a smile already curving her face. She spots Paige and grins, bounds over to her looking for all the world like the happiest woman ever.

Paige returns her grin, cups her sweaty face and kisses her for all she's worth. Alex tastes like sunshine and running and, for a second at least, Paige doesn't mind that Alex' gym class takes up time they could be spending together.

Paige can't actually believe she's here. She's been looking forward to this day for four long years, longer than that, actually, probably going back to grade four or five. She planned for this day all year, even bought her dress three months ago. But it didn't seem real, like it was really ever going to happen. Not until she is up on the stage, rolled up diploma in one hand and Ms. Hatzilakos palm in the other.

Then it is gut clenchingly real, and for a second Paige sees sparks in front of her eyes. The next moment they're gone and she's following the queue across the stage and back down to the green, green grass of the football field.

She's less dazed, but still nauseously happy, when she meets up with her family minutes later. Dylan gives her a huge bear hug, hoisting her off the ground, and she's too happy to even think about complaining. Mom and Dad smile and laugh and congratulate her, but they back off the second Marco and Spin show up. Soon Paige is being swarmed and hugged by all her friends, which she doesn't mind at all. But there is one person missing, and she tries her best to look for her above the crowd.

Paige is just about to bully Spinner into giving her a leg up when she feels arms snake around her middle. She twists and grins and throws her arms around Alex' neck in one smooth motion. Doesn't think, just leans in and kisses her girl with all the happiness and freedom she's feeling at finally being done with high school. Alex pushes in, too, tongue warm like the sun on the back of her neck.

She wants to stay here, like this, for as long as she can. But she can hear Dylan and Marco behind her, clapping and hooting like idiots. So Paige pulls away and smiles at Alex, blushing like crazy and not really caring.

"Can you believe it?" Paige isn't sure why she feels the need to whisper as she pushes against the door, but she does. The locker room smells exactly like she remembers it, like unwashed socks and two week old macaroni-and-cheese.

She feels around the wall next to the door, and flicks on the light before turning to smile at Alex. The noise of the party they just left fades as the door thuds closed.

Alex sniffs the air and grimaces, reluctantly following Paige into the room. "What, that this place still smells like ass, even after 10 years?"

"No." Paige rolls her eyes and leads them back along the side wall, toward the ever present dripping that marks the showers. "That it's been 10 years."

"Well." Alex wraps her arms around Paige's waist and bumps her back into the wall next to the line of sinks and mirrors. "You certainly don't look old."

Paige growls playfully. "Don't mess with me, punk." She nips at Alex' lower lip as she laughs. "I'm not above playing dirty."

"Mmm." Alex lets herself be pushed against the outer wall of the open showers as Paige nips at her again. She grins and lets her hands push up under the light fabric of Paige's shirt. "I guess it's a good thing I like dirty."

Paige grins, too, and presses her knee between Alex' legs. She leans in, stopping a breath above Alex' mouth. "I guess so."
