I presume you are referring to a transporter?

[ came a voice from behind the battered doctor. ambassador spock didn't question the injuries -- not yet, at least -- merely waited for his question to be answered in regards to his assumption. after all, what else would leonard mccoy label a "death trap" other than a transporter? ]
