[ the view from the observation deck was nice, sure. kirk was physically incapable of waxing poetic, but he could see why people would spend time up here. it sort of made you feel like you could reach out and touch space - and by extension leave the station. of course, once you were done sightseeing, it was as heavy a reminder that you couldn't ( Read more... )

[uhura was standing about thirty feet away from him, though she wasn't looking in his direction. she wasn't even deliberately not looking in his direction, though she'd been doing a fairly good job at avoiding him so far, sticking to places like the library and her own quarters, studying, reading, and trying to sort out how she was feeling. it was a mixture of a few strong emotions. sadness was the most obvious. there was also insecurity and confusion.

and anger. anger that she'd allowed him to make her feel this way and anger that he'd kissed her and then walked away. anger that she'd let him hurt her.

maybe it was a sign that her first instincts about him were right after all.]

[ space was nothing if not big black cathartic. he'd thought until his thoughts just ran out and he wasn't really paying attention to anything. when he snapped to again, marginally pissed at himself for zoning out in the first place (that so rarely happened to him; damn girl problems), he turned to leave and who should be there except the very subject of all this indecision.

yeah, uhura. ]

Uh...

[ fuck. ]

[she didn't look up or over until he said something (or, more accurately, grunted something) in her general direction. when she saw him, her mouth dropped slightly open and her body turned to fully face him, ready to give him a piece of her mind.

and then she realized she didn't know what to say.]

[ see, this? this was why he was intent on avoiding her until he had a definite strategy. hell if he couldn't think his away out of any combat simulation the academy threw at him, but a women where there were (seemingly) legitimate feelings involved? damn, that was sad.

well. they could keep staring at each other or he could follow up his last incredibly intelligent statement with something equally stunning. ]

What's up?

[ because her mun hasn't gamed with you in a while, have one nurse christine chapel of 2258.50 wandering onto the observation deck with a PADD in hand, paying more attention to it than her surroundings. she does see kirk, though, but being that she's unaware of just how many versions of her captain are running around the station, she nods to him polite-- ]

Captain.

[ --and continues on her way, unaware that she mistook him for someone he's yet to become. ]

[ because his mun missed you, all righty then! and because there was probably no better distraction in the universe than a hot blonde who thought he was a captain. if she thought that, she must've been new, so he snapped out of his thoughts and decided to make a new friend. he was getting sick of the view anyway. ]

Nurse... [ he said in an acknowledging tone, hoping to come up with her name when he got a better look at her. nope, just didn't know it. ] Nurse. You must be new to the station.

[ he even sounded a little captainly, for good measure. ]

[ the fact that he didn't know her name didn't set off any bells in her head to tell her that this might not be the man she thought he was. she was a nurse, locked away on sickbay decks away from the bridge where the captain usually spent his time. it was no surprise that he didn't remember her name and she didn't hold it against him. she was still learning the names of the crew herself. they all were. ]

Chapel. Christine Chapel.

[ christine gave a nod, accompanied with a little shrug. ]

Fairly new, sir, yes.

Well, welcome aboard.

[ he was going to be a captain one day - he knew that before he started seeing himself + three years walking around. but whenever he affected a tone at the academy, it was generally to be obnoxious. here he could genuinely practice all the people person aspects of it.

even if he'd still look like an ass once she found out he was a cadet. ]

Have you been to the infirmaries yet? Best place to look for someone who might recognise you. And I hear Southern sickbay's understaffed.
