[ it was difficult to keep jean-luc picard in sickbay for too long, no matter what the ailment, even if you were beverly crusher, whom he was much more inclined to listen to. but, as it were, after being escorted to sickbay and administered something for his headache, jean-luc had left and, thanks to amaryllis, was better able to ignore the faint ( Read more... )

[ after briefly meeting data, deanna had tried to familiarise herself with the station - however what she felt, seemed wanting to stop her. if not for her head hurting deanna may have been able to ignore the additional thoughts and feeling - while not the extent of full telepathy, it was a greater sensation that she'd previously experience on the enterprise in her time. so much pain, so many random thoughts, voices, things that didn't fit. it was consuming, and a little terrifying.

deanna had asked the computer for a station overview and had gotten a list of other crewmembers from the enterprise - specifically enterprise-e. after deciding among who to visit deanna made her way to ops, where the captain and a place of possible answers was, central ops was where command should be. after finding a hopefully appropriate turbolift, deanna made her way, keeping a hand half-pressed against her head ]

[ whoever the captain expected to arrive in operations, it was not the face he found himself staring at. he hesitated for a moment, just in case it was a hallucination, but curiosity got the better of him and he stepped away from the controls to approach her. ]

Deanna.

Captain.

[ central ops wasn't what or how she'd expected, though ship designs differed greatly with each class so having an expectation wasn't always the right thing to do. she liked the peace of the place though - it gave a nice place to talk, and a slight escape away from the crowd that followed her head, even if briefly

she stepped down from the turbolift, giving the captain a smile as she approached ]

How are you?

[ if it were anyone else, he would have feigned being completely healed and insisted he was fine, but this was deanna. he couldn't lie to her if he wanted to, with her betazoid gifts. and so, he merely shrugged a little and answered honestly, simply-- ]

I've had better days.

[His head still hurt like nothing else ever had, but he had to at least try and get something done. He couldn't afford to sit around and do nothing- despite what was going on. In fact, it was probably because of what was happening that the sense of having to get off this station had intensified. It was almost an obssession now.

Ops was really the only place he could think of where he wouldn't be distracted. Not too many people went up there, he thought, so it would be perfect. Last time he had tried the observation deck the distractions had come by in droves.

He was entirely surprised, therefore, to find anyone in the room let alone the captain. Echoes of the last conversation- he hadn't exactly been subordinate- they had had ran through his mind for a moment and he wondered briefly whether or not he should turn and leave, but he had already interuppted, so he took a deep breath, screwed up his courage, and stepped into the room.]

[ picard looked up at the sound of footsteps accompanied with a voice he was certain wasn't his imagination. ]

Ah, Lieutenant Lanford. Mind giving me a hand? I'm running a station-wide diagnostic. Might as well get some work done while the rest of the crews are otherwise incapacitated and occupied.

[That certainly wasn't the scolding he was expecting. A surprised look flashed across his face, before he stepped all the way in.]

Y-yes, sir.

[ if the lieutenant expected the captain to be cross with him over what had occurred previously, he was wrong. in fact, jean-luc was rather grateful someone stepped up and pulled him out of his delusions. the vast majority of the crew who weren't part of his senior staff or one ten forward bartender would have happily allowed him to believe there were borg plaguing the station than inform him of otherwise. to say the least, jean-luc was quite impressed with landford. ]

I never did commend you for thinking to use the plasma coolant tanks to our advantage with the Borg. That was a very brilliant, clever deduction.

[Data had explored each area of Shtel Nor now, as it was called. He head learned a lot of the residents seemed to be impaired by a pandemic, one of the medical staff in Sickbay told him before he had departed. Counsellor Troi he had already spoken to; but his captain he had not. Until now when he entered Control Ops.]

[ if the captain was surprised to see deanna on the station, he was even more shocked to see data present, as well. there was a pang anger somewhere in the core of his being, irritation and displeasure with whomever or whatever was responsible for bringing him here to subject members of his crew to this spacial enclosure. tampering with him was one thing, tampering with his crew as another.

still, he greeted the android with a pleased look. ]

Commander Data. I assume you are unaffected?

[ no need to ask if data knew. he probably did. his second officer was efficient like that, someone he could always count on to gather the facts first instead of later. ]

Aye sir, I am unaffected by this pandemic. Although I did encounter two others who were affected as such and I believe they are resting in the medical facilities of this station now.

[Data pauses for the briefest of seconds and blinks.]

Are you quite all right, sir?

A few Borg hallucinations here and there, but I assure you I'm quite well, Mister Data.

How long have you been on board?
