You wrote this very well. You can feel the awkwardness between them and Rose's need for space. I love the analogy of glass houses and being stuck inside a box and then breaking free. I especially liked this: the quotations here are all messed up, from different people or not existing at all. It gives that extra touch of the alternate world. It's a small thing, but it adds a lot.
