Challenge 97: The quarrymen. (Ten/Rose)

May 04, 2012 23:04

The quarrymen. Written for challenge #97, 'mp3.' Ten/Rose. There will always be music, wherever she goes.

She puts her hand against his chest, the double drumbeat. She's obviously thinking about it. Polyrhythmic. Faster than hers, and infinitely slower. Some songs only have three verses.

"Was there music like that, on Gallifrey?" Rose asks. He freezes. He doesn't mean to. He makes an effort to recover. "I'm sorry," she says, quickly.
"It was-" he starts, and can't. "It was different." She lies in patient silence and waits for him. It's so kind. He decides to try and catch up. There was music. There was always music. It played in the streets and hummed in the sky itself when he looked up; it only stopped when he stopped it. "There weren't bands and clubs and records," he says. "There were concerts. There was ceremonial music. But we did have stuff from Earth. It was in fashion for a while, when I was young. It was a way to show off that you didn't care." He frowns, remembering. "The elders called it primitive."
"Maybe it is," she says. She puts her hand against his chest, the double drumbeat. She's obviously thinking about it. Polyrhythmic. Faster than hers, and infinitely slower. Some songs only have three verses.

The whole thing was just gorgeous, but then it ended, and you went here, and I just. So many feelings.

I love this. Love the missing-scene nature of it. And it's beautifully, perfectly done. What a lovely trip for them to take!

Thanks so much! For once, I didn't need to stray into AU... so difficult for me, haha. It just seemed to fit. Glad you enjoyed it!

HOW DARE YOU WRITE DURING THE ONE TIME I DECIDE NOT TO CHECK LJ FOR DAYS

HOW DARE YOU

only not how dare you more like I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU OH GOD YOU WROTE THEM AGAIN AND FOR TTU TOO OH GOD I LOVE YOU, would be more accurate, but I'm pretending outrage for a little longer just because.

edited to add because i just read it and the tears are fresh in my eyes and i really, really do love you.

You write them at their absolute and very best, no matter what, I hope you know. Even if it always ends up making me cry, somehow, when they're just meeting The Beatles before they're The Beatles and I should only be smiling instead.
