Rose always seems to know exactly what the Doctor needs. She has an innate ability to do what needs doing to heal him. I love the symbolism you used in this story of the candonwood sapling.
This was especially poignant and meaningful: "Doctor, why is there a rose engraved on the door?" Now she remembered why the absence of roses in the garden had struck her as odd.
He looked down at her, then at the door, his hand coming up to trace the design. "Unlike candonwoods, roses were the rarest plant on Gallifrey."
I liked how you ended the story with a little playful banter. Thank you for posting.
She does, doesn't she? Thank you! :) They were the first thing I thought of when I saw the challenge's theme. The roses idea came afterwards. It's what's playing in my head to convert this into a series of one-shots/drabbles...
Hee, I couldn't help it. Things were getting a little too quiet. XD Thanks for commenting Bloose!
I loved the line about why there's a rose on the door and the warmth that suffused this whole story. You're putting one more moment here that bonds the two together even more so and it's done so wonderfully well that it just feels so canon. Very sweet :)
Thank you! :) The rose on the door wasn't even planned, but it felt right when I wrote it. I'm glad it feels like it fits into canon 'cause I just might make this a missing scenes series... So glad you liked!

And the end is just a perfect little slide of them relaxed enough to be who they are.

Hee, I couldn't help the ending; Manni the Muse threw it my way when I was half-way through. XD
