That Open Secret, Rose/Nine, G, 583 words

They go out for chips seventeen times before Rose finally admits what her Mum, Mickey, and every random person they pass on the street have all apparently been able to tell since that very first time they’d done it, after she’d just seen the destruction of her world.

It's that moment of wondering whether you dare to risk what you already have for something that could be better - we've all had that moment, haven't we? But personally I think Rose makes the right decision not to push it here. Given that it takes them two whole years and a separation across universes to admit to their feelings, I doubt in early to mid Series 1 they would have been ready for that change.

Enough for now...

Precisely. :)

I like this. of course they're dating! but I don't believe the Doctor is as oblivious as he likes to act.

Gosh I love those two!

That's the frustrating thing about this relationship, isn't it? The Doctor's clearly on the other side of the coin also thinking that he can't tell her how he feels, and not for entirely different reasons either. But without that we wouldn't have the endless UST of canon, so I'm not complaining. ;)

Simple and sweet, and it is very human, in a lovely, cautiously emotional kind of way.

My favourite part is the way the touch evokes the memory of Mickey, and the resulting comparison - that frame of reference that confirms for her that this is something different to what she originally thought.

Gorgeous!

I'm glad you liked it. It's very 'The Domestic Life of the Doctor and Rose Tyler', this fic. At its core, this is a relationship that any two humans could have, with all the fear that accompanies new love. As Rose herself later says, it's not about the time travel and the aliens and stuff. It's about him and her together, and that's only amplified when it finally occurs to Rose just what 'together' might mean for them.

*pets Nine and Rose* They are so adorable in their obliviousness to the obvious fact of their attraction. That was one of my favorite things about S1. You capture that perfectly here.

Thank you. That whole does-he-does-she attitude underlying series 1 and holding the two of them at arm's length (not literally, of course, what with all the hugging) is kind of hilarious and ridiculous. They're so in denial. *hugs them*

I love this moment between the Doctor and Rose. Rose's realisation that the boundaries of their relationship are shifting and that knowledge brings more meaning to their physical contact.

The Doctor holds out his hand, and for the first time ever Rose finds herself hesitating for a moment to take it, recalling how her heartbeat had raced the last time their fingers touched. That’s when she knows for sure that she’s right not to tell him. If just her knowledge is enough to have an effect, then she can’t imagine how much worse his reaction if he knows will make things.

Ah, new love.

That's the perfect icon for this. It just sums them up, doesn't it? :D

It sure does.

Now if we can just get them to acknowledge that fact to each other;)
