And now I am in the confusing position of, having loathed Six for 1.5 seasons now, feeling so much pity for the Six from Pegasus that I almost cried for her. Totally. I tend to think Six is a sort of intriguing character, but I can see why people wouldn't like her (I mean, hello, genocide), but, I'm with you on the feeling sympathy for the prisoner. It's so strange. It's quite a lot like in "Flesh and Bone", feeling some sort of sympathy for Leoben and yet not wanting to. It's an unsettling feeling but I love that the show can do it.
Between this, Lost, and DW, it's just not a proper show anymore unless my head is being messed with and my heart is being stomped on. Hee. Exactly. What's the fun if there aren't mind-frells and angst?
My only concern, though, was the meta-message that might emerge: if those who criticize Galactica's conduct, etc., are making valid points, but then are undercut by being shown as snapped or evil, doesn't that serve to invalidate the points made?
I love seeing Cain as this total war-machine, but I fear that her earlier assessments of Galactica will be absolutely ignored since she's a monster in other regards.
i thought about it too... but it's the uncertainty that *keeps* me thinking about it. how can caine be right, and yet be a monster? how can adama be wrong, but the "better" leader? or is he?
it's not a neat and clean situation by any means, and that's what fascinates me.
I think alot of is is that Cain is so cut and dried military. Hard line, ya know? Adama was ready to retire. He also adapted a more civilian attitude instead of militant attitude.
I dont' think I can get my thoughts out clear so I'll shut up for now.
Well, maybe, except Galactica's never not had criticism from the civilian fleet, and it's never not had critcism from within, either.
I think Pegasus is a good way to say, look, people break in these extraordinary circumstances. In this case it was the commander of a Battlestar, and because she broke, she took her crew down with her. Adama was prepared to dive back into the fight in the mini-series until Roslin told him to pull his head out of his ass. It's different paths ... what ifs. I don't think it necessarily follows that it invalidates any criticism of Galactica.
