One of the nice things about ICon in recent years is how one of the book sellers (Tzomet Sfarim?) arranges a big display of all of the author guest of honor’s books. I think I first noticed this when Neil Gaiman was the GoH, but it persisted when Carol Berg was here, and I noticed ( Read more... )

When i was reading the books there were moments i just wanted to put the book down and laugh, especially at Morrolan. He's an elf and a sorcerer and a fighter and a witch and has a soul-eating weapon of doom and is friends with the empress and is friends with the goddess and he has a floating black castle. And he has a name that starts with "Mor". Sounds like the character you always wanted to play when you were 14 but the GM didn't let you. :)

Even worse, he sounds like the GM's pet NPC - the character no one would let you play, unless you were the DM yourself...

They are short, but we all know they really should be tall, like the elves in Tolkien, Moorcock, and all the other fantasy stuff the people playing D&D (as opposed to the people who created D&D) care about.
