I've come to believe one of the things about being a friend is giving the good advice you know won't be listened to. At least then it is said and out in the open, and you do not end up being an enabler to anyone's addiction to pain ( Read more... )

Agreed.

Mostly true. Changing habits establishes new patterns. Maintaining habits keeps those new patters. Rinse and repeat.

I was also surprised to learn about the missing finger. And Scotty kicked ass. Mr. Doohan seems like he was a decent man as well.

Raises good. More responsibility - maybe good. Counting your blessings - priceless.

That's part of it. But there are also times when being a friend means not saying anything as well. I am fairly sure you are aware that I have no issues with telling my friends, "No, you are looking at things all wrong. Stop being a dumbass." I can be horribly and unapologetically blunt at times. But there are some things where you kind of have to let your friends figure things out for themselves. Like relationships. A friend might be dating the biggest asshole, but you have to let your friend figure that on his or her own. Also, you don't have the complete perspective your friend may have, and even if you are completely right, it is still not your place to say anything.

Also, you stuck your music in your tags field.
