Pet cruelty

I wish I was able to write meaningful essays, or at least lay down my thoughts, as beautifully as omlteaufromage does, but for now I'll stay anecdotic ( Read more... )

Have you tried calling the SPCA or the pound? That's really cruel of your neighbors to be doing that. How terrible. :( I'd definitely call the pound or someone who can investigate.

That's what I meant by "pet patrol". If they don't answer my mail I'll call. I'm not sure of when it becomes "real" pet cruelty.

Sorry, I thought that pet patrol was something different.

I'd call them anyway and ask some questions. This is too serious to just sit and wait.

Awww. *blushes* Thank you!

That poor dog! I hate hearing stories of cruel and stupid owners, but I love hearing about people standing up for the pets. I like to think that I would steal the dog if need be, but I don't know if I'd have the gonads. I'm so glad you're doing something for it. I hope all goes well, and please let me know if, improbably, I can help!

I mean it! You write so well I want to improve myself.

It sures is harder to handle when it's up in my nose. For now, I'm not sure if it's official cruelty--I mean does one time counts as cruelty? Surely other masters lost it before one time, that doesn't make them bad--but I just fear it's only the beginning. Like, now that he lashed out, it'll just become easier to do so.

I'll definitely keep everyone updated!

Would you ever consider asking the guy to take the dog? "Sir, I've noticed that you don't particularly like this dog, but I know someone who would"? Obviously, that would require someone who's looking for a dog as well, but I've heard that collective interventions sometimes just make the owner resentful.

I know. But at this rate, do I really care if he becomes resentful or not? I never talk to him, and he'll never know it's me. I'm just worried things have to detoriorate before the SPCA can justify an interventionT_T

But back on topic, I considered the option. I know my own dad would be thrilled to have a dog.

I'm glad you've taken action because this is indeed cruel treatment to an animal that just needs love and attention. It's not going to stop wanting those things. I doubt that what's happening is severe enough for any action to be taken against the owner though. I saw someone suggest that you ask to take the dog of his hands but the guy would probably just get defensive. If it's his son's dog, he's just holding it for him anyway and probably doesn't feel like he has the right to give it away. I think the most sensible solution is to ask if you can play with his dog. I can't see that he'd find reason to resent that. That way he gets to play and feel loved even if it isn't from his owners. It's not a lot but it's something and I think the best the dog is going to get at this point.

You get me exactly. He's not having a good life--but is it enough for the authorities to take action? I don't know. It's horrible to think things have to get worse so something is done.

Anyway, I have news about the situation, so I'll make a new post about it.
