Alice was bored...very bored. Her family were all at her little brothers soccer game and all her friends we're busy. She sighed and rolled off her bed. Even Dinah was asleep.
Sometimes she hated summer, there was nothing to do.

Getting up off the floor she glanced over at her mirror. “I suppose it wouldn't hurt to see if there's anything going on in Wonderland.” Without waiting to see if Dinah woke she walked over to the mirror. Putting out her hand she walked through the surface.
-

In Wonderland it was another bright sunny day as usual. Alice stepped out of her mirror's frame and started to walk. She wasn't sure what she was going to do but figured she was sure to come upon something to do if she only kept walking.

The path she was walking on happened to take her into the mushroom forest of the Caterpillar.
“Hello Mr. Caterpillar.” Alice waved as she walked into the grove. “Are you doing anything?”
“Hello Alice.” The Caterpillar replied, his hands filled with books. “As it so happens I am organizing my book collection.”
“Oh, do you need any help?”
“That's alright.” The Caterpillar replied. “I'm almost finished as it so happens.”
“Oh, okay.” Alice replied getting up, slightly disappointed. “I guess I'll see you later then.”

“If you're looking for something to do.” The Caterpillar said as she had stood up. “I do believe that the Mad Hatter is working on some sort of project. Perhaps he needs some help.”
“Thanks Mr. Caterpillar.” Alice smiled and waved as she ran off. “Good luck with your books.”

After a while Alice managed to navigate the slightly jumbled pathways of the mushroom forest to the Mad Hatters house. She was surprised when she didn't see him because he was almost always outside his house, in a near perpetual tea party with his friend the March Hare. That or working on some sort of crazy experiment and either way he was usually working outside. However the Caterpillar had said that he was home so Alice walked into the yard and up to one of the doors of the house.

She wasn't sure if she should knock or just walk in. True it was only polite to knock but still....She sighed and gave a knock on the door.

She was just about to give up and go and see if the Hatter was at the Hares house when the door opened.
“Oh hello Alice!” The Mad Hatter smiled looking down at the girl. He wasn't wearing his long purple jacket, just his vest and for some reason he was holding a lamp. “Come in.”
“Hello Mr. Hatter.” Alice replied as she walked into the strange house. “Why are you holding a lamp?”
The Hatter looked over at the blue lamp in his left hand. “Oh that. I'm cleaning out my attic today.”
“Really?” Alice asked interested, the Hatter's attic was filled with all sorts of things. “How's it going?”
“Slowly. I don't even remember where half this stuff came from.”
“Sounds like a lot of work.”
“How true that is.” The Hatter sighed.

Alice paused for a moment. “Well I could help if you want.”
“Are you sure? I mean there is a lot of stuff up there.”
Alice smiled, “I am.”
“Okie dookie then.” The Hatter took the lamp he was holding at put it on the table in the middle of the room. “Let's start.”
Alice followed the man up the stairs to the large attic. It was filled not only with the usual things but with box's marked.

Keep
Throw
Toss
?

“Well let's get to work.” The Hatter started rooting through one of the piles near the door.
Alice chuckled as she looked at the box's labels. This was going to be interesting. Sitting next to the Hatter she held up what looked like a teapot with green and blue stripes. When she was looking for something to do she hadn't expected this but it sure beat doing nothing.

--

The attic was large and filled with many things but they were starting to make some progress. You could even see the floor in some parts. Alice was having a blast and the Hatter was glad to have company. The two of them were wearing aprons to attempt to keep the copious amounts of dust off them.

“I think that was an umbrella.” The Hatter replied looking over at the thing in Alice's hand that she had asked about. “Though I might be wrong. You can toss it out.”
Alice chuckled and then tossed it into the toss box. Very few things were actually making it into the throwing out pile. The Mad Hatter was a pack rat at heart it seemed. He could think of a million reasons why things should be kept. Just in case.

The main work it turned out was organizing. Which they did manage to do a fairly good job at.

--

Alice wiped the sweat of her brow as she surveyed the attic.
“That's amazing.” She shook her head. “It's a whole new room.”
“No it isn't.” The Hatter responded. “It's still the same room.”
Alice rolled her eyes, forgetting how literal her friends in Wonderland could be. “No, I meant it looked like a new room.”
“Ah...” The Hatter nodded. “Well that makes more sense.”
At that moment there came a crowing from a large clock they had unearthed in the rubble.

Alice looked over and her eyes widened. “It's seven!” She jumped up. “I'm sorry but I have to get home.”
“Come by tomorrow, we're having tomorrow and today's tea party since we missed it today.” The Hatter said as they walked down the stairs.
“Sure.” Alice smiled. “Good bye Mr. Hatter.” She waved as she ran off. She didn't know if her family was home yet but if they were she was going to have to think of something to explain where she'd gone.

--

Entering her room Alice was minutes away from getting caught. As her mother entered the room nearly seconds after Alice had stepped out of the mirror.
“Alice, there you are.” Her mother looked slightly startled. “I could have sworn you weren't in here when I looked......” She trailed off looking at her daughter strangely. “Alice....What are you wearing?”

Alice looked down at the dusty blue apron with a teapot on it. She almost winced as she realized that she'd forgotten to take her apron off. “Um...it's an apron.” She hastily untied the thing and threw it on her bed.
“I can see that...” Her mother replied with an arched brow. “Where did you get it? It's not one of ours.”

“I was helping a friend clean their attic.” Alice admitted careful not to mention the name of the friend. “I guess I forgot to take it off.”

“You....you were cleaning?” Her mother asked with a fake look of shock on her face. “With out being told to? I never thought I'd see the day.”

Alice shrugged, ignoring her mothers jibes. “Very funny mother.”
“I know.” Her mother replied, stifling a chuckle. “But Alice. Next time...if you're going to go off and help a friend, remember to tell us where you're going. We thought you'd run off again.”

Alice nodded and almost sighed as her mother walked out of the room. That had been close.
