Yes, Zeus! And his practically turning into a zoo over the course of time and having his way with various ladies. (I have read of people who thought the shower of gold was the strangest form, but really, I vote the swan and the bull for most wince-inducing).
! I am in full agreement that this post necessitated precisely such an icon. It is very appropriate indeed.
Oh, yeah, haha! Apparently human and dragon action is actually pretty common in mythology. In a class we had last sem we went quite into that sort of thing, though it was mostly mystical huge snake dragon ladies with human kings. And they were more earth type dragons than sky dragons and if the kings didn't sleep with them they'd lose the kingdom.
you are awesome. I am linking this comment to my friend of the dragon/human non-con now. ♥
if the kings didn't sleep with them they'd lose the kingdom. NIIIIIICE. I am fascinated that it is "SLEEP WITH THIS WOMAN OR YOU LOSE YOUR KINGDOM." Also it would be a fantastic excuse (not that emperors needed justification for sleeping around, really).
ALSO I LOVE THE USERNAME AND THE AWESOME ICON THAT GOES WITH THIS COMMENT.
(Also on Zeus: YES. I remember coming across Yeat's poem on Leda and the Swan in secondary school and being DEEPLY PUZZLED - is it being figurative? Literal? But how would it even work?! D: D: D:)
There's one more that's in Indonesia- Nyai Roro Kidul! She's badass and likes young prettyboys and the colour green. Unlike the Cambodian one, she's also more associated with the sea than the land, but it works out to be pretty similar in the end.
Uh, also, there's Angkor Wat:
The Chinese diplomat Zhou Daguan, who visited Angkor in 1296 A.D., reported in his travel memoires that at night the Khmer king slept in a tower that was home to the soul of a nine-headed Naga, the lord of the country and the kingdom. Every night, the Naga would assume the form of a woman and would sleep with the king. The tower was so sacred, Zhou reported, that not even the king's senior wives dared enter.
So, yeah...
Also, if I'm not mistaken, they consider themselves to be descended from a human king and a naga princess.
