I was feeling rather nostalgic yesterday, and so spent the evening curled up in front of the fireplace with a bowl of popcorn watching The Sound of Music. I remember that movie and The Wizard of Oz used to be on once a year, and my family always treated that like "event night." The gentleman caller tells me that, as a lad, when he was being shunted round the country by his RAF father, for various reasons they ended up in a lodging house in Weston-super-Mare. In the flat beneath were the Andrews family, and every afternoon, without fail, when he was trying to do his homework, she would start on her singing lessons and go on and on and on ...

He hasn't been able to watch anything with her in it since!

That's a funny story, though I would have had the opposite problem. I would have sat to listen to her sing, and I wouldn't have gotten a thing done for it!
