Teens Corset Progress

The teens corset is pretty close to being done. All the pieces are together, all the boning channels are sewn, and the busk is in. I need to stick the bones in and bind the top and bottom, and I need to do all the grommets. Unfortunately, the grommet pliers that I bought online arrived today, and doesn't appear to work. It didn't come with ( Read more... )

My experiences with grommet pliers have been absolutely universally awful. The hammer-set tools are better, but you need to practice a *lot* so you don't overcrimp, and so you figure out how to line the pieces up correctly and strike true. And honestly, after all the frustration of getting every possible HomePro die and having them *still* turn out malformed, I was happy to spend the dosh to get a CSTEP2. There's a nice lady on eBay who sells a kit (press and dies) complete with 500 grommets for like $175. It feels a little steep at first, but it was totally worth it for me.

Are you up in Seattle permanently now? If not, you're welcome to come by sometime and use mine, see how you like it.
PS. Lookie!

I won't be up in Seattle until next month (I still have to finish Pirates of Penzance), but I already started sewing the eyelets by machine. Thanks for the offer, though! And if I ever find myself doing a lot of corsets, I'll probably wind up buying one of those presses. I used one at the corset class at CosCol, and it made things so wonderfully easy! But for now, this is only the first corset I've made on my own that required grommets, since the other stays and such that I've done have all been Ren and 18th c. The machine eyelets aren't too bad, though. I did them on my Ren bodies and on my bustle, and even with poking my awl through the hole, each one takes only 1-3 minutes.

And I love your corset! The button idea is really neat, and the pink is adorable.
