i've never been to beijing, but i have been to other parts of china and i think its fantastic.
i took a year of chinese too...it wasn't as hard to learn as I thought it would be.

cool! thats good to hear. i generally pick up languages pretty fast but the tonal thing freaks me out. i can't even pronounce the two syllable names of my chinese friends correctly... they sound like diferent tones to me even though theyre actually the same. but youre the third person to assure me that its not as hard to pick up as i think. so we will see.

taking it as a class helps. they'll really teach you the correct pronunciation and work on that with you.
i always had a really hard time HEARING the tones though...but i think that if i had immersed myself in it (like, living there) that would have come with time.

Well, Danny's been there for almost two years now and he only started learning chinese a few months before he left I think--so it's definitely not as big of a deal as it would seem. I think you're right that it depends on a lot of things, but hell, this is definitely the time of life to go travel and try something so new (or so they say!). I hope you find something that makes you happy--as happy as work can ever make something ;), and makes use of your very real talents.

Big Brother Big Sisters makes me think of "Role Models", which is actually a decently funny movie.

Crazy hormones. The sad part is that we are nigh on powerless against them.

I thought you were looking at other jobs besides your current employer?

i think having kids is really over rated. i've never wanted any, but i do sometimes wonder that one day the clock will start ticking and i'll feel like i HAVE to. which is really no reason to actually have them. i think i'll just stay on birth control until menopause so i never have to deal with it.
