The Truth of Alchemy - Horror - PG-13

Oh holy sweet jeebus. This is my entry for the fmacrossover monthly challenge, and I think I broke my brain on it. I was hit with a sudden inspiration for it, and spent all my free time wrestling with Hohenheim's POV. You don't need to be familiar at all with Lovecraft or the Cthulhu mythos, as I relied heavily on FMA themes and ideas for this. But it is ( Read more... )

crossover, fanfic, fma

Wow.. this is really amazing. I can see how much work you put in! I admit I'm not familiar with Lovecraft, but of course instead I ended up thinking "Eternal Darkness" on occasion. ;)

Your Hohenheim here is so.. intellectual! Which is perfect of course. ;) Completely awesome. I like how everything just comes together so naturally. I'm no good at saying why I like writing, but I did like this very much. *hugs*

Heee, thank you so much! Yeah, this one took a lot out of me. Honestly, I think I got hit with the inspiration for this because I've been poking at Eternal Darkness again, and Eternal Darkness is so steeped in Lovecraft that they really do go hand in hand. Lovecraft short stories all end with the hero either a) going mad, b) killing himself to escape the unspeakable horror he's discovered, c) being destroyed by the horror/minion of the horror, or d) joining forces with/becoming one of the unspeakable horrors. Pretty much like all the characters I've encountered in ED so far. The section that really screamed Lovecraft to me was the one with Alex's... grandfather, I think it was? Great grand father? The one who used the pistol and ended up in the mental asylum ( ... )

I really like this! I don't know the other fandom, but the writing is excellent and the story is still easy to follow! And it's nice to see Hoho getting some love! ^_^ And your German isn't butchered at all, though I think it might be alchemie rather than alchimie...I'm only guessing based on the word for chemistry, though! ^^

And I need to get working on my submission...dammit, LustxAxel seems so much easier than it actually is! ^^

Thank you! Yeah, I figured with the way I chose to do it - not bothering with any of the Cthulhu Mythos and linking the occult stuff to the Gate and alchemy - it would be fine for folks who know nothing about Lovecraft. :D Yes! I wanted to write Lovecraft!Hoho for so long now! Yay! I totally used Babel Fish for the book title.

I wish you much luck on that!

Gah! Awesome! XD!! There needs to be a part two with Ed getting home... I'd say from Ed's POV... but Ed is so very... un-Lovecraft!protagonist.

Hoho-papa fits the role perfectly! Well done, Milady!

Thank you! I'm honestly undecided as to if I will write more FMA/Lovecraft stuff, mainly because the style is so damn hard to maintain. But I love the Mythos, and I love sticking Hohenheim down in it.

Thank you again! I'm so glad you enjoyed!

Wow. Hoenhiem fits so perfectly in Lovecraft's world.
Your interpretation of his style is spot on. I could totally believe that H.P. had written this himself.

Doesn't he?!?! I've wanted to write Hohenheim as a Lovecraft protaganist for ages. I always felt he fit in perfectly.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I adore Lovecraft, and that is honestly one of the greatest compliments my writing has ever recieved!

I want to complement you on how well you used Lovecraft's tone- this is exactly what he would write when confronted by a creature like Hoenhiem.

Thank you, very much! Lovecraft is one of my idols and a very large influence on my original work. I'm very pleased to know I can do him and his work justice!
