Hmm, yes, I've read some of Neil Gaiman - I loved Stardust and Coraline. I've been in the middle of Neverwhere for quite a while, hasn't caught me quite as much as the other two. I'll certainly add Salman Rushdie to my list, however.
I love me some Haruki Murakami. His books never fail to impress me. I would recommend starting with A Wild Sheep Chase and, if you enjoy that, move onto it's kinda-sorta sequel, Dance Dance Dance. I'm still working on reading all of his books--including his short story collections--which is more than I can say of any author I've read in my life. Such an amazing writer.
