Instantly made me think of the character from the Viz comic called "Buster Gonad"...who has unfeasibly large testicles.....yeah viz is rather childish...but briefly it was a guilty pleasure.
thats a totally different Viz than over here in America. Our Viz is a publisher/translator of popular Japanese comics.
I love the British "funny" style of comics. It doesn't look a damn thing like French or American ones. The closest thing we had to British style cartoonists were Dr. Seuss and Charles Addams. And I only think of them in the same style cause those old Grimly Feendish comics look like a cross between the two.
Tanukis! Japanese racoon dogs! correct! That was one of the mythical attributes. Along with shape changing and turning leaves into money. In the old Mario games, the ears and tail he gets from the leaf is supposed to be him transforming into a tanuki.
