Yeah, Brittany isn't a saint, although she does come across as one alot. But like you said, that makes her more interesting.

Waiting for more :)

Nope, an actual complex human being. As far as fictional human beings go :D

Yes to this: It shows a young girl that is self-aware and focused and looking for love. It also shows a ruthlessly goal-oriented woman who forgets compassion as she is blinded by her own passion. Artie is a tool she can selfishly use to get what her heart wants. She’s not a ditzy saint, she is as flawed and morally ambiguous as both Artie and Santana. I like that. A complex, intricate and morally fascinating queer character.

Sometimes RIB forgets that Britt is human, not just a funny robot...

Mhm. They came damn close to destroying her completely by mining her so hard for comedy that all that was left was...a childish shell of...what I don't even know. It was bad. Real bad. Luckily they did seem to realise their mistake in dehumanising her and saved her with the way she acted and reacted from Sexy onwards. But was touch and go there for a while.

Random Xena feelings now....I should rewatch some of that...

She really did get built up just to get torn down - a little like Santana in the beginning of the second half of the season, except I guess sort of the opposite...Santana kind of gets torn down from ep 11 onwards so that she can start rebuilding by the end of the season.

If you disregard how incredibly wrong Barfie is, also that one episode that must never be named much less watched, this was actually perfect for their storyline. Season one left them in an undefined limbo where feelings kept growing without making any sense. Also there was quite a lot of power imbalance in their relationship. Throughout the second season both their relationship and them as individuals was torn down only to be rebuilt with the help of one another. Was kinda gorgeous.

If we disregard those things in the middle and the somewhat off ending.

And you should always watch Xena (says she who haven't watched it in like 6 months :().

Heh I take it you are skipping said unnamed episode then? Or are you going to put yourself through it for the sake of reviewing? (If so, you are a brave brave person) But sometimes I do wonder how much was plan, and how much is luck/the fandom forcing the puzzle pieces to fit.

Yeah off to dig out my harddrive with all my Xena episodes....sounds like a good plan.

As of right now I think RIB lucked out with talented actresses who added background and ambigious depth to their characters and their relationship. Then add a fandom so starved for lesbian representation on the small screen that they'll devote enough time to actually make the pieces fit, even when they don't appear to at first glance.

Mhm, there is one episode I will not subject myself to. No way, no how. Never again.

Artie is such an ass. God, he knew EXACTLY what he was getting into. Brittany makes it very clear that they are making a deal. He is extremely aware of Brittany's long list and attitude towards sex, and even right before they do it she reminds him that it's just a matter of time since he's on the football team now. There are no uncertain terms here, this means nothing to her. But because she's "the hottest girl in school" (his words even) he doesn't turn her down. But when he begins to feel guilty about losing his virginity in such a meaningless way, instead of blaming himself and taking responsibility for his own choices he puts all his guilt and regret on her. To Artie it's Brittany's fault that he wasn't concerned enough about the specialness of such an act at the time. I SO hate that! How women are cast as the temptress and deceivers. She does nothing wrong but he guilt trips the hell out of her for something that was his own mistake. And bartie shippers have the nerve to say that Santana manipulates Brittany. It SOOO ( ... )

I'm not gonna argue, not one bit. Especially not after having endured Never Been Kissed. So yeah, I'll just sit here and clench my jaw and hum in agreement.
