Brittana Review of "Rumours"

May 05, 2011 16:20

Lets start this off with a personal recap. I am an optimistic Santanacentric angst-whore. The following musings are my own truth based on that. Just know I don't even try to be objective. There is no gain in it for me. My pleasure lies in subjective speculation. Hopefully you'll find a little bit of entertainment in that as well ( Read more... )

Your analysis is always so in depth and superb, but this one takes the cake. I actually had tears in my eyes from your words/vision of this episode, that's how good it was. The episode itself, well, I'm still reeling ( ... )

I guess I should apologise for the tears, but nah. Crying in moderate doses is good for the soul. Of that I am sure.

Mhm. They are doing such a brilliant job at depicting her internal struggle and the process of coming out. The show has become such a symbol of gay empowerment that it is just mind-blowing and so important that they add this story as well. Kurt had a fairly easy journey before coming out. Everyone knew exactly who he was, himself included. Santana hasn't had that understanding or belief in herself. So to get to witness the process of coming out from two so different perspectives on the same prime time show - is beyond amazing. Especially when it is honoured by two such good actors.

Truly a joy to watch. Even if the joy frequently tears your heart apart.

Thank you :)

I mean talk about driving home the endgame status of the couple. Soulmates? I mean really. I also take this as my cue to sit back, relax and wait for Santana to get Brittany pregnant.
Santana needs to be honest with Brittany and tell her that they can't be out in high school but once they graduate and leave Lima they will be together forever.

You are 100% right that it's an open secret in Glee club. I loved the Finn-Rachel conversation where Rachel brushes it off.

What was up with Santana wearing at least two different pairs of overalls in this ep? Is Ryan trying to say something using old lesbian cliches? Covering up Santana's sexy body with overalls was very uncool.

By the way, who is Brad in real life?

nah, I think the overalls were more in line with the Rumours/70s feel that ran through the entire episode. So don't think that had anything with her actual sexuality to do. It just went well with the vinyl records, Fleetwood Mac and the Fondue.

In reality it would probably be easier for the to stay closet and for Santana to just tell her that. But this is fiction and I can't help holding onto hope of a happy ending. For Santana to actually brave the fear and for them to get to be an official and out couple.

No idea actually. I just know that I adore him. During the first season he was actually one of my favourite characters because of his disdainful looks, scruffy look and generally enigmatic nature :D

Of course I want them to be a happy, fluffy couple in school but I don't know if where Santana stands now she can. Too much of Santana's self-esteem/self-worth is wrapped up in what other people think of her -- she needs professional help for those issues.

Possibly. But I'm a romantic, so I'm hoping that once she have that one person on her side to support her she will slowly be able to deal with her own issues. Just having one person who unconditionally supports you does a lot to a person. It grounds them in a way that not even professional help can.

Not saying all will be magically well, but it will mellow and temper her fears enough so that she will be able to begin controlling them instead of letting them control her.

Or so I hope :)

Everything you say about these too is always spot on but your beautifully gushing description of Songbird i think is also amazing..

I love Lea but her emotion is so great its almost too much (singing and acting)...

but Naya's songs and her heartfelt "I love you" in sexy, plus this Soulmates (which is all Naya's doing anyway) comment...

good lord...

Nah, just perfectly flawed. thejollyape May 5 2011, 19:06:44 UTC
Yeah, Lea can be a little intense. But the biggest difference between them really is the way Lea fills music with emotion. Whereas Naya uses music to emphasise emotion. It's like you get to experience an even rawer and real version of her character whenever she sings. It's absolutely mindblowing. Gives me goosebumps all over.

And thank you :)

Stop doing this Jollyape. I had such a hard time recovering from this ep. and your recap just brought me to tears again. Really. I'm not waterproof.

Dammit I'm in love with their story. Until now I liked it, I loved it, enjoyed it, marveled about it, but now I kinda bring it with me anywhere I go. Santana's interpretation of Songbird still moves me so deeply, it was so simple, yet so intense, and so much more. And Brittany keeps amazing me, making me laugh and cry one minute after the other. And I love how their love and their struggle keep tranforming them, psychologically, emotionally and also physically. In "songbird" it is so obvious it hurts. They are achingly beautiful.

God, both Naya and Heather are so incredible.

And again I make a fool of myself...

But the tears are so sweet. I'm a masochist, but I love it.

Right there with you on the love. I have now officially declared them one of my 3 OTPs. And to me giving them that title is huge. Not just anyone makes it onto that list. But this pairing and their story - too good to not deserve that title. Everything about it. Every last longing look. Every spoken "I love you". Every unspoken I love you. The hugs. The warmth. The fear. And the love. Painful perfection. Only way to describe it.
