Speaking of Mjölnir, my friends and I have some plans to forge one, possibly of Damascus steel, and fill it with lead shot, making it a dead-blow hammer. I thought you'd have good input on that. Related: being in a Metalsmithing program is totally awesome.
While Damascus steel is beautiful, it's not the best choice for a hammer. I mean, it IS, but there are much better uses for it. Like knives or swords. Evidently, properly made Damascus is rife with carbon nanotubes, which allow it to take a ridiculously sharp edge
