More Money Crap

I thought I would check in again with Elizabeth Warren's 50/30/20 model and see where I am even though last time I didn't come close, because I'm a sadist.  I had the same issue this blogger-lady had:  technically my cats are "wants" but once you have a cat, it's a "need" because it's your responsibility to feed and vet them!

Warren's approach is ( Read more... )

money

Awesome. Well, even if it was 80%, at least you'd know it was 80%, you know? I think GI Joe had a point when he was like, "Knowing is half the battle!"

My finances were seriously awful (consumer debt, school debt, credit cards closet out involuntarily, "attorneys" contacting me to pay bills, etc.) and it was only through small changes after reading things I only half-understood at first that anything got better. Not that I'm the picture of financial stability but - better than before!

I don't mind the holidays so so much, although I'd prefer not having to gift most of my family. I truly enjoy giving to my mom and the kids. But other than that - it's just kind of rote and a waste and I'd prefer we all just call a truce but they are not into it. And I don't want to be like my hermit bitter alchie uncle - not participating in holiday gift-giving bears quite a loaded connotation in my family ( ... )

My family does Secret Santa with a 50 euro budget, which I truly love. It saves everyone from spending too much money and I get to put all my attention into finding something great for one person. No waste and no holiday stress! Also, for every birthday we all put €7,50 in a jar, which - we've calculated - should give us a weekend away in a year or two.

Hello. We're jews and we're cheap. Haha.

I'm going to calculate those percentages soon, am curious where I stand.

We don't even buy for the adults other than our "direct reports". (My mom, her boyfriend, my grandparents) Most of it is in that category and then the kids.

That is a good vacation idea! Too bad my family would rather die than vacation together, ever, but it might be a good idea to mention to my mom. As it is, we do spa days so we buy each other a massage and mani so we can spend the day together and chillax.
