The Fairgrounds--February 29, 2008

My usual rule is to wait until a couple is married before going on double dates; Perry and JD are the exception.  It was finally Friday, and that alone was enough reason to celebrate with cotton candy and corn dogs.  We pulled into the dirt parking lot, a little earlier than expected.  Turk had driven here fast, anxious to go on as many rides as ( Read more... )

Carla’s whining about something, but I tuned her out a while ago. I’m distracted by all the shiny lights and the smell of fired dough, cotton candy and vomit. I’m making for the entrance as quickly as possible when I suddenly change directions to the couple I just saw out of the corner of my eye.

“Hey JD! I’m so excited, I can’t wait to go on the Ferris wheel!!” Look at that! The wonder of the fair has even distracted me from the Phone Call of Horror and Nightmares (PCHN). It’s a fair miracle!

Perry liked the idea of the fair. Or at least he didn't hate it as much as Chuck E Cheese, which was good because that probably gave me as many nightmares as the phone call gave Turk. It had been ages since I last had gone to a fair, though. The trip there wasn't that bad, as long as I kept myself busy with something else during the entire car ride. As soon as we got there, I almost jumped out it of the car. And I say almost because I really can't do that right now, what with the injured leg and all.

Soon, I hear Turk's voice call my name and I spot him walking towards Perry and I. There's also a slightly grumpy Carla trying to catch up with him. "Hey C-Bear!" I let go off Perry's hand and head over to meet up with Turk, skipping our way to the ticket booth. "Ferris wheel! I even brought my bag in case I happen to vomit."

I can't believe JD brought a barf bag... for the ferris wheel. Only I have seen, first hand, that he does indeed get nauseous up there. I guess Carla and I will have to ride the roller coaster ourselves while the girls get their faces painted. I snort to myself at the thought.

I blink as Gandhi approaches us and he doesn't seem ready to slug either of us, or burst into tears. Carla, on the other hand, seems ready to slug Turk. I let the girls skip ahead and raise an eyebrow at Carla's dirty jeans. "Going for the worn in look?"

I finally catch up with Turk and join the other happy couple. I punch Turk's shoulder before turning towards Perry and JD.

"Hi guys." I try to brush the rest of the dirt off my thighs, "very funny, Perry." I hit Turk's shoulder again, this time with my purse. "Eighty dollars Turk, eighty dollars!"
