I placed my tray gently on the table so I wouldn't spill food everywhere.  It was soup and frozen yogurt day--my favorite.  Turk was called down to the OR for an emergency surgery and Elliot was spending some time with Todd in an on call room.  JD was, of course, on medical leave.  There's nothing more depressing than eating tomato soup alone.  I ( Read more... )

I glance down at my pager and Carla's note. Just the opportunity I was looking for. I look to my watch. Late enough. Lunch it is. Not that I don't mind eating a long, at all, but it's Carla. And I might have something to ask her about.

About five minutes later and I snag a tomato soup on the way to Carla's table. "No Gandhi around to keep his woman company? He's getting lax. Some fine young doctor could take his place without him around to fend them all off." I grin at her.

"Oh hush. He's in surgery." I finally put a spoonful of soup in my mouth and swallowed. "I wouldn't want any one else... except maybe you. Maybe I should have enjoyed that pizza back then, huh? Before JD scooped you up for good." I roll my eyes and laugh before swallowing another spoonful of soup.

"Seriously though, I just wanted some company. How's life?"

"We could run away together and leave Turk and JD to tour the waterparks of the world together." I snort a chuckle and toss another grin at her, before settling in to my soup. "The usual. Saving lives, harassing interns, missing JD." I glance away at that, playing with the crackers in my soup for a moment, before I clear my throat.

"Actually I had been meaning to look for you today. I was wondering if, so long as you two don't have any plans sometime after my shift on Thursday, if you could get JD out of the apartment for like... an hour?" I look back up at her and fight the urge to blush. "It's hard to, you know, surprise him with anything, if he's stuck in the house all day..."

"Oh waterparks, how did you know that was the way into my heart?" I bite into a soggy oyster cracker.

"We don't have plans that I know of, but I'm sure the two of us can spare an hour for our best friend. On one condition, you tell me the surprise." I take a moment for the request to sink in. "It's so nice to know that someone finally broke down big, bad Perry. You're all mushy inside when you talk about him. I just want to squeeze you."
